Take 2! What a reset could look like.

In those first few years, we were blessed! We had our horses in the field! We had chickens! We had bunnies! We had our dog who was loving the move to the country! We had cats!

We thought God was looking for us to move so we downsized and gave away much of the animals. The real plan was to keep us from refinancing too early and we are still in our home that God provided.

We still have horses that come from time to time. We now have 2 donkeys too. We have 2 cats and our dog. This year we will be cleaning out the coop area and prepare for our next start with fresh eggs again.

The First Easter…

The First Easter

I remember that first Easter on the farm and reflecting on how good God is. I remembered all the things I didn’t realize about the house that this house had based on dream homes we had seen in our younger days. I looked at the tree in our yard and noticed crosses were growing on it. God didn’t want me to forget how much He had to do with where we are at.

But that Easter had even more beauty than just the message of the cross, because He is risen!

Years later as I thought to myself…I never got a horse.

What happens when you start to think that you never got a horse?

On Phil’s Farm, my daughter received a pony from friends but I felt I never got a horse. Then as I prayed about it, God reminded me of how it all began and how He had provided my horse. When we moved in there was a lady who had been keeping her horses in the field and asked us if we would be ok if she kept having them in our pasture. We agreed. One of the horses was getting sick and old and eventually died. After that she stopped coming and I started taking care of Shiloh. Even till the end when he passed away at an old age, I was there petting him as he breathed his dying breath. I felt the need to call her and let her know what was going on. And then what did God show me, that He did provide me the experience of a horse and taking care of it, I never rode him, but my kids got to. He was a great horse and I miss my gift from God of a great horse named Shiloh.

A gift from God and a way to bless others.

In 2004 God brought me to an intersection where I had to ask Him if a dream he had put into my heart as an 8 year old was something I made up or something from Him and that if it was from Him, could He find a place within 20 minutes of the church. What He brought to me what the words from a sermon I had heard a while back when the pastor was preaching how it is easier to steer a moving car than one that is parked. I realized that this meant I had to start looking. The initial ones I found within this criteria were way too expensive and so we started to work with a real estate agent and 21 homes later, we found our little place of heaven..

With the blessing that came with Phil’s farm, were 2 horses who were boarding on the land and the opportunity to grow the animals on the farm. We started with getting chickens the first Easter, but lost some to my neighbor’s dog. She blessed my children by getting them bunnies as a replacement for the lost hens. It was a great start and each Easter as we learned more and grew our flock. Over the years, I also learned about predators and how to prevent the loss to them. We also lost the 2 horses who were originally boarding on the property, and our next set of 2 horses and a pony left when we thought we were moving (but God had other plans) and now have 2 horses which match the original look of the first two sets which the family enjoys. It has also been a blessing to many others who have been able to take advantage of the basement apartment we have to get some rest and restoration. What a blessing this place has been not only to me and my family, but to many others. (to be continued…)

Considering the dream of an 8 year old boy

Driving down the road considering the dream of an 8 year old boy

As I was driving down the road, I considered how as a young boy I considered getting a horse. In the process I realized I could get a job that would allow me to save up for a horse, however, continuing the math, I wouldn’t have been able to keep the horse. I turn to God and asked “If it was you who put the idea to have a horse in my head as an 8yr old boy and you really want me to fulfill the dream, can you put it within 20 minutes of the church?” And the journey began, 21 properties later, Phil’s Farm was started.
